Mary Poppins Couch

Image
Hey everyone! Hope everyone had a great week! My week was amazing because our friend Simon got Baptized on Saturday! I also got transferred on Friday to Irvine. My new companions name is Elder Steele and he is the real "steele" (insert courtesy laugh). I am now out of ysa work, but it was a good run.  This weekend we visited one of our recent converts in the ward and he was telling us all about his youth and how he was shot in the hip when he was 14 because he beat a kid in marbles and how he was stabbed when he was 20 while he was working as a security guard. The guys done everything. He had us help him find his sister's phone that he lost and he told us to start flipping over the cushions of the couch. We found the phone and we also found so much crap underneath those cushions. We found like 3 smoke detectors, a phone, and a light bulb. How the light bulb didn't break, I don't know. But we kept pulling stuff out of the couch and it was like Mary Poppins couch. I...

Elder Workman, A Barber?

Hey everyone! Hope everyone had a good week. This week was pretty great. I did the Blazin Challenge at Buffalo wild wings, the consequences are still haunting me from that decision, and I was able to fix a guy's car door on the street using the rubber band I had for some church cards, #MacGyver.  There has been a tragedy this week. My hair was getting pretty long on the top, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and cut my own hair. I thought a 5 guard for the clippers would be good enough to just trim a little off and still leave a good amount of hair on top. So I decided it would be smart to go out on the porch with no mirror and start buzzing away. After the first stroke through my hair, I noticed a huge clump of hair fall down to the ground. I thought to myself, "Huh, my hair was a lot longer than I thought," and then I kept going. I then decided to go look in the mirror to see how my fresh cut was looking. When I walked in, and looked in the mirror I saw buz...

Karaoke

Hey everyone! Hope you had a great week! This week flew by. We had a karaoke night with the ward, and a few of our friends came. I literally had to carry that activity because no one would go up and sing. I sang anything from Sweet Caroline to Santeria to Tequila. After about 20 minutes of me up there, people started warming up to the idea, and others started to participate.  This week, we went on an exchange. When me and this Elder that I was with woke up, we started to plan out our day before our personal study. The Elder starts rambling about how he has been doing this thing before he studies that helps him focus. He rambles for about 7 minutes about how much it has helped him, and in the middle of his lecture stands up and walks into the bedroom to get his pillow and blanket. He then proceeds to lay on the couch and put an eye mask on, all while still rambling about how this "focus exercise" has changed his life. After about a minute of just laying there he starts snoring...

Life Is A Highway

Hey everyone! You know it's a great week when it consists of May the 4th and revenge of the 5th/Cinco de mayo. Since it is the end of the school year, the college was doing a "Battle of the bands" on campus this week. When we were walking around campus we would stop and listen to these bands and I was actually amazed on how many ways you can butcher songs haha. This week we had a leadership council in irvine which is about an hour and a half away from San Marcos. So five of us made the trek up to Irvine in one car. I was gracefully forced to sit in the middle with the hump for both there and back by the other missionaries. Going up wasn't too bad, because it only took us an hour and fifteen minutes to get there. Going back was a different story. It was stop and go traffic for almost three hours to get home and I was in the middle hump. One of the Elders on the side of me was pretty tired so he decided to take a little nappy and take up half of my already limited leg s...

20 Questions

Image
Hey everyone I hope you had a great week! This week was pretty eventful. I had my first experience on bikes on my mission , I helped clean a snail cage for some Elders who are trying make homemade escargot, and have been playing a whole lot of Kendama.  This week we has a lesson with our friend Simon, who is on date for baptism. Simon said the first time we met him that he was 25, but he looks like he is 40. Since we are in the young single adult ward, we only teach people that are 18-31 and if they are older they go to a regular family ward. We had to make sure that Simon was in that range, so the first 20 minutes of that lesson was making sure that we didn't hear him wrong when he told us how old he was that first time. We didn't wanted to flat out ask him how old he was, because that would have been too easy. We pretty much played 20 Questions with him. We started off the conversation talking about his favorite type of tree, and we were able to steer the conversation to him ...
